our introduction

Consecrated on 8 February 1883, Honor Oak Lodge No. 1986 is one of the longest-established and most respected Lodges meeting at the Wigmore Masonic Centre in Rainham. With a proud history spanning well over a century, the Lodge combines strong tradition with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes both members and visitors feel immediately at home.

As a Grand Patron of the Freemasons’ Grand Charity and a Patron of the Kent Masonic Museum and Library Trust, Honor Oak Lodge has a long and distinguished record of charitable support and Masonic involvement. Today, it continues to play a central role in the life of Freemasonry in Medway, offering high-quality ceremonies, genuine friendship, and a real commitment to helping others in the local community.

We formally meet 6 times per year on the:

  • 2nd Wed in January
  •  3rd Monday in March (I)
  • 3rd Wednesday in May
  •  1st Wed in September
  •  4th Tuesday in October
  • 3rd Monday in November

Our regular meetings are held in the Temple and normally commence at 6:00pm.

Please note that our March meeting starts earlier, at 5:30pm.

Members customarily arrive at least 30 minutes before the published start time to allow for preparation, greetings, and the smooth conduct of Lodge business.

Following the Masonic work in the Temple, we retire to dine together, continuing the tradition of fellowship and good company. The evening’s formal proceedings are usually concluded by approximately 9:30pm.

After dining, the bar remains open until 11:30pm, providing members and guests the opportunity to continue socialising in a relaxed and convivial setting.

Honor Oak Lodge is known not only for its excellent standards in the Lodge room, but also for its strong sense of fellowship and its active involvement in charitable and community work across Medway and beyond.

A particularly valued relationship is its ongoing support for local good causes, including Step and Learn, where members regularly host events, provide sponsorship, and welcome families to the Wigmore Masonic Centre. These occasions bring together Freemasons, partners, families, and the wider community in a relaxed and friendly environment, reflecting the true spirit of service that sits at the heart of the Lodge.

The Lodge also encourages members to take an active interest in Masonic learning and heritage. Through its support of the Kent Masonic Museum and Library, and by organising visits and social activities, newer members are able to deepen their understanding of Freemasonry while building lasting friendships.

A strong Lodge of Instruction, a varied ceremonial programme, and well-supported social events throughout the year ensure that every member is involved and able to progress at their own pace. This balance of tradition, learning, and enjoyment makes Honor Oak a vibrant and forward-looking Lodge while remaining firmly rooted in its proud history.

Visiting Brethren are always assured of a very warm welcome, and the friendly and inclusive nature of the Lodge means that whether you are an experienced Mason or new to Freemasonry, you will quickly feel part of the Honor Oak community.

Whether you are a visiting Brother or curious about becoming a Freemason in Medway, Honor Oak Lodge offers tradition, friendship, and a genuine sense of belonging.
